SATA Serial ATA Talon CD/DVD Tower Duplicator

SATA or Serial ATA is the next generation hard drive interface. Looking into any modern computer will see the flat, wide 40-wire parallel cables. PATA, or Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (also known as IDE) has been the standard for connecting storage devices like hard drives and CD/DVD drives to the motherboard. While this has been the standard for quite sometime, it has always had its drawbacks.

Cables limited to 18 inches in length often made connecting devices to the computer motherboard difficult and blocked proper airflow inside the case. Although round cables were soon available as replacements, even the most advanced PATA drives hit the maxiumum amount of transfer rate. With the speeds of everything else in computers advancing, designers saw that PATA would need to be upgraded to improve system performance and efficiency and keep up with the increasing speeds of CPU's, system buses and RAM.

New SATA technology has several benefits over PATA. The cables connecting SATA devices to the motherboards are much thinner 7-pin connectors, can be 3 feet in length and are also round to leave more room in the case for airflow. SATA also has a much lower power requirement of just 250mV compared to PATA's 5 volt requirements.

SATA also eliminates the need for master/slave configurations and drive jumpers. Setting up SATA drives are much easier than before and allows hot-swapping, which means adding and removing hard drives while the system is running.

Some Features & Benefits of Upgrading to a Talon CD/DVD Duplicator with SATA Technology

  • Faster data transfer speeds over regular PATA (IDE) drives
  • Longer, thinner cables
  • Increased airflow inside the duplicator case
  • Advanced product reliability and overall speed improvements
